My Background
I’ve been in the technology industry for a whopping 25 years. I’ve seen it all, from the wild world of startups to the towering giants like Oracle. Yep, I’ve had a front-row seat to the tech tornado, and let me tell you, it’s one heck of a wild ride!
Let’s take a detour down memory lane to my time as part of Matrox Graphics’ management team. It was like being in the eye of a hurricane. Sales started from zero and skyrocketed to a jaw-dropping $1 billion. Can you imagine the frenzy? It was like riding a roller coaster through a gold mine!
But hey, not every venture is a smashing success. I took a leap of faith and launched my very own startup, ConnectGood. Well, let’s just say it didn’t quite connect with the market as I had hoped. Product-market fit? Yeah, we missed that train entirely. Oh, and hold onto your seats for this one—those sneaky Venezuelan coders vanished into thin air, taking our precious source code with them. Ugh!
Why did I launch TechieToons
TechieToons is my take on the technology industry. This project is a combination of 3 different skill sets of mine;
1. Art / cartooning – this is something I have always enjoyed doing. I invested a lot more time and energy into cartooning as my COVID hobby. I hope that forcing myself to create weekly cartoons will help me get much better.
2. Besides my 25+ years of experience in the technology industry, I also incorporate other experiences into my cartoons. Among them is mentoring startups. As well as providing management consulting services to technology companies for many years. I’ve got stories to tell. Many, many stories.
3. Storytelling, both visual and written – I am fascinated by the power of storytelling. Especially in business. You can deliver a boring factual presentation with 25 slides or you can tell an impactful story. Whenever possible, I prefer to tell a story. My hope is that TechieToons will hone my storytelling skills. I also hope that some of the cartoons I draw and the narratives I write will resonate with people. For example, this is a nice reminder to any salesperson to not sound robotic.
Finally, I live in Toronto, Canada with my wife and 3 teenage daughters. There is a comic book brewing in the future about that aspect of my life!
